Taxis & public transport
TAXIS
Kalkan taxis are cheap, plentiful and easy to find and are available 24/7 to make your visit convenient and a lot less sweaty.

How to get one: There are 5 main ways to get one.

1) Hail them when you see them. They are zipping around from place to place; just like any town/city, stick your hand out and they will stop for you.

2) Go to them. There is a taxi rank at the top of the main town. There is also an unofficial rank down by the harbour. There are usually taxis waiting at the big Migros and also they tend to hang around the market on market days.
3) There are three taxi rank numbers:

4) Call / Whatsapp one directly : Every driver gives out cards. Many also give out fridge magnets. When you find one you like, grab their details and contact them directly. You may also find direct numbers left from previous guests at your accommodation.

5) Use one of the call buttons dotted around Kalkan incling those at The Marina, Anka, Big Migros, New Migros, Migros Jet, Carrefour, and Kömürlük.

If you are looking for recommendations for drivers, we have listed a few but suggest joining our friendly and informative Facebook Group Visit Kalkan and asking the community for their favourites.

Pricing: All taxis are metered. By law they should turn it on but dealing with minor coins is a hassle so for most trips drivers will quote a fixed price. Tips are not required but always appreciated.
The current taxi charges (as of August 2023) are shown below.
A good driver will enhance your holiday. When you find one, take good care of them and they will take good care of you too. Do take their card and give them your repeat business. All drivers respond to WhatsApp messages and calls. Message them if you are scheduling a pick-upin the future but for immediate taxi, call the central number or call your driver as they may not be checking messages all the time.
Did you know we have a lady chauffeur in Kalkan, ready to transport you and your friends for a night out on the town, an airport run or a day of private sightseeing....
Some visitors, especially those who are single and/or younger ladies or happen to be more conservative, may prefer a lady driver at the helm. If you are one or know someone who does, ask them to get in touch with Ümmü (see above).
DOLMUS
DolmuÅŸ which translates to “stuffed” or “filled” in English are smaller, minibus style public transport found all over Turkish neighbourhoods.
All local dolmus originate at our Otogar / Bus terminus and they also pass thru Kalkan town, along the main artery Åžehitler Cd.

There are 2 main routes that serve Kalkan.
Southbound towards KaÅŸ : This dolmuÅŸ departs the otogar, passes through Kalkan and then a main stop at KaputaÅŸ Beach before ending up at KaÅŸ. Journey time is around 30 mins and tickets are very inexpensive, usually around $1 (less than £1). Please bring Turkish Liras, change is given on board. More details and schedule at our Visit KaÅŸ page.

Northbound towards Kınık : This dolmuÅŸ originates in KaÅŸ, passes thru town and then stops at our otogar before heading northbound. First main stop is Akbel, then YeÅŸilköy followed by GelemiÅŸ and then the location most visitors are interested in : Patara It will then head off to Kınık via other
neighborhoods. More details and schedule at our Visit Patara page.
BUS
Kalkan’s Otogar is also a busy place with many long distance buses calling in on their way to further destinations. These large buses do not pass thru town but only call on our bus terminus before heading onto their destinations.
Major destinations that can be reached directly from Kalkan include: Fethiye, Antalya, Izmir, Ankara and Istanbul. Some buses are express and going quickly to their destinations while others can be slow stopping in at many intermediate cities. Check the route and schedule carefully.
Some schedules and ticket purchases can be made online at obilet.com but its much safer to pop into the bus terminus to double check times and buy tickets there.

There are some further destinations that may not be easily reachable from Kalkan, one popular example being Cappadocia. For such cases, you may need to head to a larger center (eg : Fethiye or Antalya) to find suitable transport.
Note : there is no easy public transport options to Dalaman nor Antalya airports. For other options, please see our Airport Transfers page.
